Dillard Baseball Defeats Voorhees in First Doubleheader Match
NEW ORLEANS– In an exciting college baseball matchup, Dillard University claimed a decisive 7-2 victory over Voorhees University on March 28, 2025, at their home ground. The game showcased solid performances from both teams, highlighting Dillard's effective offense and strong pitching.
Dillard University took an early lead in the first inning, capitalizing on defensive errors by Voorhees. Key highlights included K'Wality Williams' single, which brought in two runs, and Maurice Thompson IV being hit by a pitch, allowing another run to score. The home team continued to dominate, adding two more runs in the third inning, courtesy of another fielding error by Voorhees' first baseman, J Surles.
Voorhees University managed to get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with C Scott scoring on a fielder's choice. However, Dillard quickly responded in the bottom of the same inning with Jalen Ayers driving in Derrald Moore Jr. with a single. The scoring concluded for Dillard in the sixth inning when Braylon Guerin scored on a sacrifice fly.
Jorge Guerra, the starting pitcher for Dillard, delivered an impressive performance, allowing just three hits and two earned runs over seven innings while striking out eight. His effective pitching earned him the win. Voorhees' pitcher, Davis, struggled with control, hitting four batters and allowing six earned runs, which ultimately led to his loss.
Offensively, Dillard's lineup was propelled by contributions from multiple players. Williams and Moore each had crucial RBI hits, while Guerin and Thompson IV contributed with notable base-running efforts. Despite Voorhees' late attempt to rally, scoring a run on a passed ball in the seventh inning, they fell short of closing the gap.
The matchup highlighted Dillard University's strength in both offense and defense, while Voorhees University will look to improve their fielding and pitching in future games. Overall, it was a compelling display of college baseball, with Dillard emerging as the clear victor.
