The No. 17 Nationally Ranked Dillard Women’s Track & Field Program Off To the 2022 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Starting This Wednesday

New Orleans – The No. 17 nationally ranked Dillard's women's outdoor track & field program sends a delegation of six athletes to compete in six different events this week from May 25 -27 at the 2022 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama at Mickey Blackwell Stadium.
The competition list for this week includes Kevell Byrd (100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay), Ryan Smith (200m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay), Rachel Rowe (long jump, triple jump, 4x100m relay), Ta'Nijal Matthews (4x100m relay, 4x400m relay), Leila Walton (triple jump) and Karmyn Dotson (4x400m relay).
The 4x100m relay group competes at 3:40 p.m. in the preliminaries on Wednesday, May 25. The 200m dash preliminaries is at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25. The long jump finals are on Wednesday, May 25, at 7:30 p.m. The triple jump finals are on Thursday, May 26, at 5:30 p.m. The 100m dash preliminaries are at 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 26. The preliminaries of the 400m are on Thursday, May 26, at 5 p.m. The preliminaries of the 4x400m relays are at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 26. The finals of the 4x100m relay is on Friday, May 27, at 2:40 p.m. The finals of the 100m is on Friday, May 27, at 3:50 p.m. The finals of the 400m dash is on Friday, May 27, at 4:30 p.m. The finals of the 200m dash is on Friday, May 27, at 5:10 p.m. The 4x400m relay finals are on Friday, May 27, at 6:15 p.m.
Last week, Dillard's women's program was voted No. 10 in the South Region in the weekly USTFCCCA Poll that was released on May 16. The program followed that up by earning 17th place in the USTFCCCA's National Poll this week. It was the ninth straight week that the program has been ranked in the top-30.
The program has the fifth-ranked 200m sprinter in the country (Kevell Byrd), the sixth-ranked 200m sprinter (Jakenzie Thymes), the sixth-ranked triple jumper (Rachel Rowe), the seventh-ranked 200m sprinter (Ryan Smith). the eighth-ranked 400m sprinter (Kevell Byrd), the 12th-ranked 100m sprinter (Kevell Byrd), the 14th-ranked 4x400 relay team (Kevell Byrd, Anginique Andrews, Karmyn Dotson, Ta'Nijal Matthews), the 15th-ranked long jumper (Rachel Rowe), the 23nd-ranked triple jumper (Leila Walton) and the 24th-ranked 4x100 relay group (Kevell Byrd, Ta'Nijal Matthews, Rachel Rowe, Ryan Smith).
Dillard won the 2022 GCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship for the fourth time since 2010 on Saturday, April 23. The program had 11 event victories and 34 All-GCAC selections over the course of the two-days of competition. The program followed that up by seeing their 4x400 relay team finish fourth at the prestigious Penn Relays on April 30 with a season-best time of 3:54.65. The program ended up finishing third overall last time at the Carey Last Chance Meet on May 13. The program had two event victories (Rachel Rowe – triple jump and the 4x100 relay team) and three top-three finishes on the day.
Next, Dillard's women's program will begin off-season workout preparation for the summer.
