Pensacola Christian Secures Sweep Against Dillard (LA) in Season Opener
NEW ORLEANS– Pensacola Christian College played against Dillard University (LA) in a decisive volleyball match at the Pharr Gymnasium on August 29, 2025. In an early morning showdown that marked the season opener for both teams, Pensacola Christian demonstrated their prowess with a 3-0 sweep, improving their record to 2-0.
Despite a spirited effort, Dillard fell short in each set, with scores of 26-24, 25-17, and 25-17. The visiting team struggled with consistency, as evidenced by their attack percentages of .182, -.031, and .167 across the three sets.
Pensacola Christian's Sydney Anderson led the charge with a standout performance, amassing 13 kills with a hitting percentage of .381, contributing significantly to her team's success. Her efforts were complemented by Lyssie Metzker, who added 10 kills and maintained a .194 hitting percentage. Madisyn Kandel also made a notable impact with four service aces, which helped to bolster Pensacola's aggressive gameplay.
On the defensive end, Pensacola Christian showed strong blocking, with Anderson, Olivia Boyd, and Allie Whiting each contributing to the team's six total blocks. Their defensive strategy proved effective in neutralizing Dillard's offensive attempts.
Dillard's performance, while commendable in effort, was hindered by errors and a lack of efficiency in key moments. Cadence Thomas was a highlight for Dillard, managing seven kills and supporting her team with a .190 hitting percentage. However, the team's overall hitting percentage remained low at .109, reflecting their challenge against a robust Pensacola defense.
The match was played in an empty gymnasium, with no recorded attendance, but the intensity on the court was palpable. As both teams move forward in the season, Pensacola Christian will look to maintain their momentum, while Dillard aims to regroup and refine their strategies for upcoming matches.
