New National Qualifiers Emerge for Dillard Women's Track and Feild
New Orleans,LA- Dillard track and field traveled to Houston, TX to compete in the FasTrak invitational indoor meet this past weekend. The event consisted of teams across all divisions and Dillard still managed to exert their dominance. The women's track team has been battle tested and has prevailed to date. Many of the women who competed set new personal records as well as qualified for nationals. Coach Nile Legania said, "These young women have nothing but heart and I think the program is in a good position". They will move on to McNeese State this Friday, January 27th, as they push toward NAIA nationals.
Kevell Byrd shows why she's a 2 x All-American. Today she qualified in her third event for nationals (400m) running a season's best of 56.99 which is #3 in the NAIA and #3 all-time in Dillard history. Byrd also won the 400m, 4x4 relay and second in the 60m (7.74).
Ta'nyia Flowers and Tori Burton continue to raise their stocks in the NAIA, both runners ran respectable times of 7.85 & 7.87. keep an eye on these two freshmen as the season progresses.
Transfer Tashina Betioku-Alase had a great day. Betioku-Alase qualified for nationals running a time of 9.08 in the 60h. That time put her #31 in the NAIA and #2 all-time on the Dillard list, only behind teammate Daila Young.
Kaylyn Turner and Freshman Stephonie White made some big throws today. Turner threw 11.54m in the shot put finishing second in the meet. That mark has Turner #3 on the all-time list. White threw 11.39m in the weight throw which was good for #3 on the Dillard all-time list.
