New Orleans,LA- Dillard Women's Basketball finished their GCAC pod this past Sunday with optimism moving forward into the conference tournament. The Bleu Devils have now competed with every top team in the conference. Although they have come up short, the margin of each loss has been within 10 points to each of the top teams in the GCAC. The Bleu Devils will look to finish fifth in the conference as they take on SUNO on Wednesday, February 15th. They competed in Little Rock, AK, and finished the weekend 0-3. They would face the top three teams in the GCAC: Rust, PSC, and Fisk.
Game 1- The Bleu Devils would face off against the Panthers of Philander Smith College, who currently holds the second spot in the GCAC women's Rankings. They would be defeated 68-65. Ariana Hart and Ayani Cockrell would lead the Bleu Devils with 17 points each. Cockrell would have one of her better games this season as she grabbed seven rebounds and assisted on two baskets. Alexis Gie would also facilitated for the Bleu Devils with six assists. This contest would see everyone get involved as the Bleu Devils fought but came up short.
Game 2- The Bleu Devils would face off against the nationally ranked Bearcats of Rust College. Jordyn Rowe would lead the Bleu Devils in points with 13 and have 5 assists in the contest. Taylor Dewitt and Ariana Hart would have 10 points each. Dillard would put on a good performance but the Bearcats would put on display why they are one of the top 25 teams in the nation.
Game 3- Dillard would come into this game with their hands full against Fisk. They knocked off a top 25 team, Rust, and have one of the best players in the GCAC. Dillard would come out with a solid game plan and be a couple of baskets away from a win. Four of the five starters for the Bleu Devils had double-digit points on the afternoon. Taylor Dewitt lead the team with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Nine of the ten Bleu Devils that checked in the game scored. This was an overall team effort that would end in heartbreak for the Bleu Devils as they try to move up in the GCAC rankings. They will look to shake up the conference as they compete in the GCAC championship tournament.
