Bleu Devils' Win Streak Snapped At Tougaloo
The Bleu Devils visit crosstown rival Xavier (La.) Saturday at 5 p.m.
TOUGALOO, Miss (DU) - Dillard saw its seven-game win streak snapped against Tougaloo College as the Bleu Devils fell 92-79 Monday evening at the Dawg Pound.
The Bleu Devils were unable to match the hot-shooting of the Bulldogs, who shot 60 percent from the field in the second half. Tougaloo College had six players in double-figures in scoring, including two off the bench. Foul trouble also plagued Dillard as three Bleu Devils fouled out in the second half.
Senior forward Patrick Thompson recorded his second straight double-double leading the Bleu Devils with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Dillard trailed most the game, but was only down five at the half (42-37). However, the Bulldogs used their depth to overwhelm the Bleu Devils, whose bench was outscored 29-7.
Senior guard Quinton Jackson helped get the Bleu Devils within striking distance knocking down a pair of free throws with 8:32 remaining in the second half to cut the deficit to single digits, 71-63. However, that would be as close as the Bleu Devils would get as the Bulldogs continued to have an answer everytime Dillard made a run.
Jackson had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Joshua Simmons also picked up a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Jorori Coleman, the Bleu Devils leading scorer, struggled against the Bulldogs going 4-of-10 from the field for 10 points. Kristopher Allmon also had a tough outing finishing with nine points.
Dillard (16-9, 7-3) visits crosstown rival No. 23 Xavier (La.) Saturday at 5 p.m.
