Dillard Drops Heartbreaker To Talladega College
Dillard Returns Home Saturday, January 13 To Face Edward Waters College
TALLADEGA, Ala. (DU) - In their second consecutive road game in Gulf Coast Atletic Conference play, Dillard was unable execute down the stretch as Talladega College used a 7-0 run in the final 1:11 to earn a 80-76 win Monday night.
Junior Jorori Coleman continued his stellar play, scoring a team-high 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field. Coleman was extremely efficient from deep shooting 67 percent (4-of-6) from behind the arc. Senior Joshua Simmons logged another strong game nearly missing a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. The Irmo, South Carolina, native has now scored 20 points or more in four straight games for the Bleu Devils.
Senior Patrick Thompson kept Dillard close early scoring 15 of his 19 points in the first half. Thompson was 11-of-14 from the charity stripe in the first half and was a major reason why the Bleu Devils only trailed by one (40-39) at halftime.
Talladega was fouled by Dillard on a 3-point attempt with 30.4 seconds left in the second half. The Tornadoes made all three attempts to tie the game at 76-76. Looking for the game-winning basket, the Bleu Devils turned the ball over and then and committed an inadvertent foul to put the Tornadoes on the line. Four free throws in the final 2.5 seconds proved to be the difference and gave Talladega the win.
Dillard falls to 9-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play and are back at The Battlefield on Saturday, January 13 to host Edward Waters College at 5 p.m.
