Bleu Devils drought continues with 10th GCAC loss
At halftime, William Carey led 44-30, with Drew Meyerchick pacing the Crusaders with 22 first half points on 8-10 shooting from the field, 5 of 7 from 3-point range. Add to that Brandon Cooks' contribution of 18 points (and nine rebounds), and both players would account for all but four of WCC's total first half points.
In the second period, Meyerchick and Cook slowed down a bit, but not enough for the Bleu Devils - who only got within 10 points in the second half - to catch up. The two Crusaders finished with a combined 58 points, with Cook adding nine more rebounds, for a total of 18, to go with his 23 points. Meyerchick posted a William Carey season-high of 35 points, going 12-15 overall and 8-11 from beyond the arc.
For Dillard, Lance Bell hit 7-14 shots, 7 out of 12 from 3-point range and 2-4 from the free throw line, for a career and season-high of 23 points. James Burkes put up 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Bleu Devils go to Jackson, Miss., on Saturday, February 6, to face GCAC opponent Belhaven. The men tip off at 7 p.m., at Charles R. Rugg Arena.
