Free throws not enough to overcome Columbus State
December 13, 2009
New Orleans, LA - Looking to start their first win streak of the season, the Dillard Bleu Devils came up short against NCAA II Columbus State in an 81-61 road loss, Saturday at Lumpkin Center, in Columbus, Ga. Senior guard Cornice Wingate led Dillard with 12 points and four steals.
Though the Bleu Devils (1-5) shot nearly 70 percent from the free throw line and had three players in double figures, poor field goal shooting (.262) stymied the offense. Getting outplayed on the boards didn't help either, as DU had 39 rebounds to the Cougar's 51.
Dillard's Avry Ingram had 11 points, while Mico Sjekloca chipped in 10 and five rebounds. James Burkes also had five boards.
CSU (4-1) had five players in double digits including Donta Ridley with a game high 17 points and four assists, followed by a double-double from Chris Telesford of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon Bland had 13 points, Nick Gagnon added 11 and Jeremy Grimball produced 10 points, eight rebounds and a game high five blocks.
The Bleu Devils will be in action for the final home contest of 2009, next Friday, December 18, when they host the Running Eagles of Life University (9-6), at Dent Gym. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
