The Dillard University Competitive Dance and Cheer Teams To Begin Competitions This Thursday at XULA’s Convocation Center

New Orleans – The Dillard University competitive dance and cheer teams, who are in their first year of official NAIA competitive competition, are scheduled to kick off their season this Thursday, Feb. 10, as both programs head to Xavier University of New Orleans for a two-day meet from Feb. 10 – Feb. 11 at the Convocation Center in the Battle in the Big Easy Cheer and Dance Competition.

According to the last schedule released, the Diamonds are set to compete at 5:50 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Feb. 10 and then again at 9:40 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. on Feb. 11. The Cheer Devils are set to open the season on Feb. 10 at 7:10 p.m. and compete again at 7:50 p.m. The team second day of competition is set for 11:40 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. All times are subject to change as the schedule appears to be very flexible.

The doors open on Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. and competition for all invited teams is 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. The doors open on Feb. 11 at 8 a.m. with the competition scheduled to be completed by 4 p.m.

The two teams are only scheduled for a pair of individual competitions this season with the second one being the Southeastern Cheer and Dance Championships hosted by St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida on Feb. 19.

The 2022 DU Diamonds are comprised of David DeJohn, Taylor Gentry, MaCoi Hollins, Keshawna Jackson, DeJoan Mitchell, Aziyah Rotimi, Alana Taylor, Savannah Terrell and India Woodard. The Diamonds are coached by Dr. Jana Smith, who is in her 23rd year leading the program.

The 2022 Cheer Devils roster consists of Kennedy Allen, Kyrah Anderson, Ashantis Balancier, Srilanka Barber, Tya Brooks, A'Niya Claiborne, Kayla Edwards, Asia Ellis, Taylor Fauntroy, Zakirah Fields, Kailynn Hart, Dalijah Hubbard, Jamiya Lewis, Markeyah Moore, Eulalia Morrison, Kaylee Pollard, Talajia Sardin, K'Ya Sowell, Destiny Spears, Karrie Spears, Casey Watson and Joy Wilkerson Knox. The team is coached by Courtney Cadore, who is in her first year with the program.
