Bio

Coach Melvin Le'Kerby Marshall brings more than 25 years of coaching experience-including 20 years at the collegiate level - to his new role as Head Baseball Coach at Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Known for his ability to transform programs, build winning cultures, and develop student-athletes both on and off the field, Coach Marshall has established himself as one of the most respected leaders in HBCU baseball.

A Hall of Fame inductee at Shaw University in both baseball and basketball, Coach Marshall's career includes remarkable turnarounds at Edward Waters University and Paine College. At Edward Waters, he took a struggling NAlA program from just 10 wins in 2006 to a school-record 35 wins in 2008, earning multiple conference honors and producing the university's first-ever Major League Baseball draft pick. At Paine College, he elevated the team from 17 wins to 30 in his first season, led them to the SIAC Championship game, and guided the program to multiple HBCU Black College World Series appearances.

Beyond his collegiate coaching success, Coach Marshall served as an Assistant Area Scout for the Miami Marlins from 2009 to 2022 and has coached four players selected in the MLB Draft. He is equally committed to academic excellence, with his teams consistently maintaining GPAs above 3.0 and earning numerous institutional awards for academic achievement.

At Dillard University, Coach Marshall is focused on building a championship-caliber program grounded in discipline, accountability, and community engagement. His vision is to position Dillard Baseball as a competitive force on the field, a leader in academic achievement, and a source of pride for the university's students, alumni, and supporters.
