Coach Nile Legania wins 5th consecutive HBCUAC title, named Women's Coach of the Year
SHREVEPORT, LA – May 1, 2026 — Dillard University head coach Nile Legania continued to cement his legacy as one of the premier coaches in the conference, capturing his 5th consecutive HBCUAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship title and earning 2026 HBCUAC Women's Coach of the Year honors.
The Lady Bleu Devils secured the team championship with 189.5 points, showcasing dominance across sprints, hurdles, distance, relays, and field events. Dillard's performance was highlighted by 23 All-HBCUAC performers, 6 conference champions, and 4 runner-up finishes, emphasizing both elite performance and team depth.
Senior Tori Burton led the way with a 100m title and key contributions on two championship relays, while sophomore Laila Johnson delivered a standout meet, sweeping both hurdle events. Freshman Karlise Davison added a conference title in the 800m, continuing her impressive season.
Dillard's relay units proved to be a major difference-maker, capturing titles in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, while also finishing runner-up in the 4x800m relay.
Legania's recognition as Women's Coach of the Year reflects the program's continued excellence, consistency, and competitive dominance within the HBCUAC. This championship marks Legania's 13th title since 2020 as the head track & field and cross country coach, making him the winningest coach in the program's history.
With five consecutive outdoor championships, a roster filled with top conference performers, and nationals on the horizon, Dillard University continues to set the standard in the HBCUAC.
