Dillard Athletics Partners With Son Of A Saint

Dillard student-athletes will assist in tutoring mentees of the program

NEW ORLEANS (DU) – Dillard Athletics is excited to partner with Son of a Saint for the 2019-20 academic year.

"We're thrilled to embark on this new partnership with the student athletes from Dillard University," said Bivian "Sonny" Lee, the Son of a Saint Founder and Chief Executive Officer. "Son of a Saint provides its mentees with so much more than mentorship and this tutoring initiative will be further proof of that mission. These are the types of resources our young men need and these tutors will be great examples for their educational achievement."

Son of a Saint exists to enhance the lives of fatherless boys through mentorship, emotional support, development of life skills, exposure to constructive experiences and formation of positive, lasting peer-to-peer relationships.

"We are thrilled to partner with Sonny and the Son of a Saint organization to provide tutoring assistance to the young men of the organization," said Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes, Dillard athletic director. "This is a unique opportunity not only for the Son of a Saint mentees, but also for our student-athletes to put Dillard athletics mission into action by demonstrating excellence in community/ civic engagement while, expanding their leadership skillset."

ABOUT SON OF A SAINT
Each year, Son of a Saint selects a group of boys ages 10-13 to join the existing kids in our program. The boys must be fatherless due to their father's death or incarceration. Each boy remains an official Son of a Saint mentee until he is 18, but the connections remain, and we continue to advise and support him in the years that follow. Our goal is to graduate self-sufficient, independent thinkers who are leaders and give back to their community.

Son of a Saint equips boys with the tools they need to become productive men. We give them hope, vision and opportunity. We provide a secure and consistent environment for them. But the Son of a Saint mentors' most important role is simply to be a good example.
