(Lake Charles, LA) Looking to build on what was an impressive 2010-11 season last year with the Dillard Men's Track and Field team capturing the GCAC Conference Championship and the Dillard Women's Track and Field Team finishing runner-up, both the men's and women's team's picked up where they left off from last season by shining at the Jeff Davis/McNeese St. Indoor Track and Field meet last Friday. 

 

Sat, Apr 23, 2011 - [Men's Track & Field]

Baton Rouge, LA-The Dillard Men's Track and Field Team put on an impressive performance and won the First Annual GCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship held at A.W. Munford Stadium on the campus of Southern University and A&M College on Good Friday. 

The Bleu Devils dominated SUNO, Xavier University and Edward Waters College from start to finish en route to the championship. The Bleu Devils finished with 161.50 total team points. Edward Waters College finished 2nd with 136 points. 

The Bleu Devils' relay team started the competition by finishing second in the 4x100-meter relay race with a time of 43.21. The 4x400-meter relay team, which has qualified for the NAIA Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis, finished second in competition with a time of 3:24.42. Dillard's Men's 4x800-meter relay team finished first in team competition with a time of 9:29.18. 

The Bleu Devils led the way in individual competition. Ladalrius Miller finished 1st in the 110-meter hurdles. Three Bleu Devils finished first, second and third in the Men's 400-meter hurdles. Emory Nash finished first in the Men's 800-meter race with a time of 2:04.22. Zachary Harmon finished first in the Men's Shot Put with a score of 9.92 meters.

Mon, Mar 28, 2011 - [Men's Track & Field]

New Orleans, LA-The Dillard Bleu Devils Women's Track and Field 4x100-meter relay team has qualified for NAIA National Track and Field Championships on May 26th. The relay team ran a time of 47.8, finishing 7th in the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Cajun Track and Field Meet last week. The time was the 4th fastest in the NAIA this season. The women's 4x100-meter relay team consists of Wanda Burkes, Destinee Showell, Shandreka Keller and Courtney Henry. In women's individual competition, Courtney Henry finished 11th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.58 and Destiny Showell finished 17th with a time of 12.68. Both Henry and Showell qualify for the NAIA National Track and Field Championships in 100 and 200-meter dash.

In men's competition, Dillard's 4x400-meter relay team finished with the 5th fastest time in the NAIA. The relay team's time of 3:22.63 was good for 9th at University of Louisiana-Lafayette Cajun Track and Field Meet last weekend. In men's individual competition, Freshman Rudy Garza finished 4thin the 400-meter hurdles. 

Dillard's Men and Women Track and Field teams will resume competition on Saturday, April 9th at the South Alabama Relays in Alabama.

New Orleans, LA-According to directathletics.com, Dillard University's Men's and Women's Track and Field teams have several players listed in the top 30 out of 150 competitors in all NAIA Outdoor competition. 

In men's competition, Freshmen Wendell Collins and Ladalrius Miller are ranked 24th and 26th respectively in the 100-meter dash in the NAIA Conference. In the men's 400-meter competition, Freshman Matthew Jones is ranked 11th, Freshman Emory Nash is ranked 17th and Freshman Ladalrius Miller is ranked 18th. Freshman Rudy Garza is ranked 14th in the NAIA in the 400-meter hurdles.

In relay competition, the Dillard University Men's Relay teams are ranked 9th in the 4x100-meter relay and 6th in the 4x400-meter relay. The 4x400-meter relay team's best score this season is a time of 3:24.85, posted at last week's FAMU Relays.

In women's competition, Freshman Courtney Henry is ranked 7th in the NAIA in the 100-meter dash. Henry's best time this season has been a 12.56. Lady Bleu Devil Wanda Burkes is ranked 18th in the 100-meter dash. 

In relay competition, the Lady Bleu Devils' track team is ranked 4th in the 4x100-meter relay, posting a season best time thus far of 48.83 at the FAMU Relays. The ladies 4x400-meter relay team is ranked 10th in competition this season.

Thu, Mar 17, 2011 - [Men's Track & Field]

Tallahassee, FL-The Dillard University Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams competed at the 60th Annual FAMU Rattler Relays last week in Tallahassee, Florida. It was the second meet of the season for the runners.

Dillard's men's and women's teams put on a great performance. For the women, Courtney Henry finished 11th out of 35 runners in the women's 100-meter dash final with a time of 12.56. The women's 4x100 meter relay team finished 8th with a time of 48.83. The women finished with a time of 4:06.89 in the 4x400 meter relay, good for 7th place.

In men's competition, Dillard's Matthew Jones finished 5th in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 50.40. Jones was competing against runners from FAMU and Grambling State University. Rudy Garza, Matthew Jones, Emory Nash and Ladalrius Miller finished in 4th place in the men's 4x400-meter relay. The relay team posted a time of 3:24.85. 

Both the men's and women's teams will travel to Lafayette and compete in the University of Louisiana -Lafayette Relays on Saturday, March 19th.
