(New Orleans) Dillard Bleu Devils' William Gonzalez and Jevonte Ezzard will compete in the 56th Annual NAIA Men's and 32nd Annual Women's Cross Country National Championships.

The championships will take place on Saturday, November 19th at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Washington. The men's 8k championship race will start at 10:30a.m. PST, followed by the women's 5k gun sounding at 11:45a.m. It is the third consecutive year that the event has been held at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. 

William Gonzalez, a junior from San Bernardino, California, finished 6th overall in the GCAC Conference Championships two weeks ago. "I'm pretty excited to be running against the best runners in the country as far as NAIA competition is concerned," said Gonzalez. "I had already pictured myself being in this position before it happen. While Coach Williams was recruiting me, I told him that I would be running in nationals this year."

Jevonte Ezzard, a freshman from College Park, Georgia, finished 7th in the GCAC Conference Championships two weeks ago. Ezzard also had an impressive finishes in the Loyola Wolfpack Invitational and Louisiana State University Invitational this season as well. 

Saturday's awards ceremony, which features team and individual acknowledgment, will be live-streamed here for free starting at 2 p.m. PST.

(Clinton, MS) The Dillard Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams both finished in 3rd place at the GCAC Cross Country Championships at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, MS this past Saturday. Six of the GCAC Conference eight teams participated in the meet.

The Lady Bleu Devils' Cross Country Team finished with 82 total points (12+14+15+17+24+32), while SUNO collected 56, good for second and 22 points for Xavier University, the conference meet winner. 

Destinee Showell, Devin Degruy, Monique Waiters and Karley Picou led the way for the Lady Bleu Devils. In the individual 5k run, Stowell finished 12th overall out of 41 runners with a time of 21:49.14. Devin Degruy finished 14th with a time of 22:32.97, while Monique Waiters followed close behind, finishing 15th, posting a time of 23:01.42. Lady Bleu Devil Karley Picou finished in the top twenty in competition, placing 17th with a time of 23:23.84.

Led by Bleu Devils' William Gonzalez and Jevonte Ezzard, Dillard finished with a team total of 64 points (6+7+14+16+21+26), third to only Edward Waters College (64 points) and Xavier University (22 points) in men's competition. 

Gonzalez finished 6th overall out of 38 runners with a time of 29:34.06 in the individual 8k run. Ezzard finished in 7th place with a time of 29:46.53. 

Daniel Gibson, Rudy Garza, Emory Nash and Alonzo Martin also had an excellent showing at the conference tournament for the Bleu Devils. Garza finished with a time of 32:40.98, good for 16th place, Emory Nash finished 21st with a time of 33:50.23, while Martin placed 27th, posting a time of 35:24.36. 

Dillard's William Gonzalez and Jevonte Ezzard were both voted to the GCAC All-Conference Team for their outstanding season.

Joseph Moses of Xavier University was voted both Men's and Women's GCAC Cross-Country Coach of the Year.

(Metairie, LA) Dillard's Men and Women's Cross Country teams competed in the Loyola Wolfpack Cross Country Invitational this past Saturday at Lafreniere Park in Metairie. Schools competing in the meet included Loyola University, Mississippi College, Xavier University, Millsaps College, William Carey University and University of New Orleans.

The Lady Bleu Devils Cross Country team finished 8th in 5K Dash. Individually, Devin Degruy and Monique Waiters put on great performances for the Lady Bleu Devils. Degruy, a freshman, finished with a time of 23:25.68, good for 46th overall. Waiters, a sophomore, finished 48th overall with a solid time of 23:42.31. There were 75 women competing in the race.

In men's competition, junior William Gonzalez put on an impressive performance, finishing 21st in the Men's 5K Dash with a time of 17:14.25. Gonzalez finished only one second out of the top twenty. There were 65 men competing in the race. Dillard sophomore Rudy Garza had a great day of competition, finishing 43rd in the race, with a time of 19:45.23. As a team, the Bleu Devil men finished in 7th place.

The next meet for the Dillard Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams will be at the Azalea Classic on Saturday, September 17th.

(New Orleans) The Dillard University Cross Country team will participate in the Loyola Wolfpack Invitational Cross Country Meet on Saturday, September 10th, while the Lady Bleu Devils' Volleyball Team hosts Mississippi Valley State University tonight and Judson College on Saturday evening.

The Loyola Wolfpack Invitational meet will be held at Lafreniere Park in Metairie. Competition for the women will begin at 8:00a.m., while the men will follow at 8:35a.m. Dillard's Cross Country team expects to put on an impressive performance in this meet which includes participant's Loyola University, Xavier University, University of New Orleans, Belhaven University and Spring Hill College. "We are looking to better our performance at this meet from the previous years," said Cross Country Coach Bobby Williams. "I expect us to give a great performance."

The Lady Bleu Devils' Volleyball team will play host to Mississippi Valley State University tonight, September 9th in Dent Hall on the "Battlefield" at 7:00p.m. 

On Saturday September 10th, the Lady Bleu Devils will host Judson College in Dent Hall on the "Battlefield". The game will begin at 3:00p.m.

Nashville, TN - (Cross Country) The Dillard men's country team was in action this weekend, competing at the 2010 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championships.  The men finished 3rd scoring 55 points.  

Top Bleu Devil finishers included freshman Emory Nash running the 8,000 meter race in 31:36 finishing fourth out of 21 runners. Sophomore, Byron Myles ran it in 31:55, finishing 6th overall.  Freshman Rudy Garza ran the race in a time of 35:48, for 16th place; Alonzo Martin captured 17th place in a time of 36:07.  Winning the GCAC cross country title for the fourth consecutive time was Xavier University with runners placing in the first three spots, paced by Matt Pieri with a time of 28:57.

 Runners Emory Nash and Byron Myles we named to the All-conference men's Cross Country team along with top, Matt Pieri, Ray Walston, Javon Mead, Charles Shaw and Ryan Thompson of Xavier, Norbert Miller of SUNO, and Patrick Billings and Najee Culmer of Edward Waters. Xavier Head Coach, Joseph Moses received Coach of the Year honors.

 

This event concludes the 2010 season for men's cross country team.  Dillard track and field teams will open their season on February 5, 2010, at the McNeese State University Indoor Meet in Lake Charles, La.
