Nashville, TN - (Cross Country) The Dillard women's country team was in action this weekend, competing at the 2010 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championships.  The women finished 4th scoring 78 points.  

Top Bleu Devil finishers included freshman Destinee Showell running the 5,000 meter race in 22:00 finishing sixth out of 26 runners. Freshman, Karley Picou ran it in 24:40, finishing 13h overall.  Sophomore, Wanda Burkes ran the race in a time of 25:21, for 17th place; Brittany Thompson captured 21st place in a time of 27:02.  Winning the GCAC cross country title for the fourth consecutive time was Xavier University. 

Destinee Showell was named to the All-conference women's Cross Country team along with Monicah Jepkemboi and Trydy-Ann Williams of SUNO and Anna D'Souza, Brianna Dekine, Deonye' Coleman, Ashley Taylor, Dominique Webb, Yazmin Ramirez and Rubeneisha Cooper of Xavier. 

 This event concludes the 2010 season for the women's country team.  Dillard track and field teams will open their season on February 5, 2010, at the McNeese State University Indoor Meet in Lake Charles, La.

NEW ORLEANS, LA - Dillard men cross country teams are set to compete at the GCAC Championships this Friday, November 5, 2010 in Nashville, TN. Destinee Showell and Karley Picou are set to be top runners in the GCAC based on the performances from their previous meets. According to Coach Williams, these two have the potential to make the all-conference team if they finish in the top ten.

New Orleans, LA - The Dillard cross country teams competed this weekend at the Gulf Coast Cross Country Stampede, hosted by West Florida Tech High School in Pensacola, FL.  Freshman, Destinee Showell led the Lady Bleu Devils for the third week in a row with a time of 21:46, her personal best this season. Wanda Burkes improved tremendously with a four minute drop in time this week at 26:53. Other runners making significant improvements this week were Ebone' Pierce (27:11), Sandreeka Keller(31:17), Courtney Henry (31:49), and Aislyn Taylor (31:59). 

Next up is the UNCF Walk/Run-a-thon for Education this Saturday, October 2, 2010 in New Orleans at Audubon Park.  

The race is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.

Mobile, AL - The Dillard cross country teams competed this weekend at the Azalea City Cross Country Classic, hosted by the University of South Alabama, in Mobile, AL.  Freshman, Destinee Showell, led the Lady Bleu Devils for the second week in a row by running a time of 22:44.   Karley Picou, a freshman, saw significant improvement from last week's race by running a time of 25:56, which is a 2 1/2 minute decrease from her time last week. Showell and Picou finished 23rd and 31st respectively. The women finished sixth out of six teams. 

 Next up is the Gulf Coast Stampede on Saturday, September 25, in Pensacola, FL.

New Orleans, LA - The Dillard cross country teams competed this weekend at the Radisson Hotel Wolfpack Invitational, hosted by Loyola University, in New Orleans, at Lafreniere Park.  Freshman, Destinee Showell ran a time of 23:54.  She finished 27 out of 53 runners and was the first Bleu Devil to finish the five kilometer course. 

Also scoring for Dillard was Karley Picou, a freshman, in a time of 28:09. Wanda Burkes rounded out the top three Lady Bleu Devil finishers, crossing at the 29:16 mark. The women finished seventh out of eight teams. 

Next up is the Azalea City Classic Invitational on Saturday, September 18, in Mobile, AL.
