NEW ORLEANS (GCAConf.com) – Dillard University forward Jalen McGaughy has been named Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week as well as Dillard University Athlete of the Week for games competed on the week of January 23-29.
McGaughy, a junior transfer from Ann Arbor, Mich., has made an instant impact on the Bleu Devils this season. This week he led his team to three victories and produced three straight double-doubles. In a 21-point blowout victory over Edward Waters, he scored 19 points and grabbed 13 boards, shooting 8-for-10 from the field and connecting on 3-of-4 from downtown. In the 25-point thrashing of Crowley’s Ridge, McGaughy scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and swatted away seven blocks, hitting 10-of-14 shots from the field, including 2-of-3 from downtown. In the 33-point destruction over Xavier at the Crosstown Classic, he scored 22 points, grabbed 12 boards, swatted away eight shots and had three steals. McGaughy was a perfect 3-for-3 from both downtown as well as the charity stripe and shot 8-for-11 from the field. For the week he was 8-for-10 from three-point land, averaged 21.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, had a total of 17 blocks in three games.
This is his second Player of the Week award this season.
