NEW ORLEANS (GCAConf.com) – Dillard University forward Demetric Austin has been selected as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Feb. 29 – March 6.
Austin, a junior from Washington, D.C., led the Bleu Devils to a 3-0 record in the conference tourney including a career-high in the semi-final game (34 pts, 14 rebounds) in a win over Philander Smith, then his team went on to the GCAC championship game as the Bleu Devils won over arch-rival Xavier University by the score of 84-71. Austin was not only named to the All-Tournament team but received GCAC Men's Basketball Tournament MVP honors...his team earns an automatic bid to the NAIA national tournament in Kansas City.
GCAC tournament stats-Averaged 27.6 points per game, and grabbed 9.3 boards per game; shot 84% from the free throw line (26-of-31) and shot 63% from the field (25-for-40).
This is his third Player of the Week award of the season.
