NEW ORLEANS (GCAConf.com) – Dillard University forward Demetric Austin has been selected as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Feb. 14 – Feb. 20.
Austin, a junior from Washington, D.C., led the Bleu Devils to a pair of victories over Loyola University (27 pts., seven boards) and Philander Smith College (31 pts., seven boards) by averaging 29 points and seven rebounds per game while shooting 51 percent from the floor (55 percent on three pointers).
He also made 86 percent of his free throw attempts, including 11-of-13 against PSC in his first ever Battle of @hiphopprez (Old School vs. New School). In the contest, Austin nailed the game-winning shot with less than one minute to play at the Battlefield in Dent Hall.
Austin ranks third in the GCAC in scoring at 19.6 points per game and in rebounding at 9.1 rebounds per game.
This is his second Player of the Week award of the season.
