(New Orleans, La.) The 14th ranked Bleu Devils led by 20 points at halftime en route to its fifth straight Gulf Coast Athletic Conference victory, this time over Edward Waters College by the score of 86-65 at the Battlefield in Dent Hall in the annual "Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers" game. A total of five technical fouls were called throughout the game.
Dillard (13-5, 5-0 GCAC) jumped out to a 46-26 lead at the break by shooting 53 percent from the field and knocking down eight 3-pointers in the opening half. Junior transfer James Morris Jr. (JR/Peoria, Ill.) knocked down five 3-pointers as he tied a team-high 20 points while Dennis Hightower (SR/Chicago, Ill.) also matched his teammate with 20 points and also dropped nine dimes in the victory.
The Tigers opened up the second half on a 22-4 run to bring the game to 50-48 in favor of Dillard. Edward Waters then had a chance to take the lead with a three-pointer, but the attempt was missed and that was as close as the Tigers would get all night as the Bleu Devils ended the game on a 46-17 run.
Despite playing without its leading scorer and rebounder, Dillard still managed to outrebound Edward Waters 36 to 27. In the five consecutive conference victories for the Bleu Devils, its average margin of victory has been 19.4 points.
Junior transfer Jalen McGaughy (JR/Ann Arbor, Mich.) had a solid game with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, including three 3-pointers and several alley-oop dunks. McGaughy produced the games only double-double as he grabbed 13 boards and swatted two shots away in the win.
Edward Waters' Keith Williams Jr. finished with a game-high 24 points in the loss.
Dillard returns to action on Thursday, January 26 as they host one of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' newest teams in Crowley's Ridge College. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Battlefield in Dent Hall.
