(New Orleans, La.) The Lady Bleu Devils used a 15-0 run in the first half to destroy the Lady Panthers of Philander Smith by the score of 84-61 at the Battlefield in Dent Hall. The victory marks Gulf Coast Athletic Conference victory number two for Dillard.
Dillard (10-5, 2-1 GCAC) produced a total of four scorers in double figures and was led by splash sister Alyssa Washington (SO/Austin, Texas) who finished with a team-high 22 points and also added seven rebounds and seven assists. Teammate Alexia McDonald (JR/Petal, Miss.) was next on the list with 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists while the other splash sister, Shaelynn Moore (SO/Houston, Texas), added 17 points including three 3-pointers. Moore currently ranks 12th in the nation in three-point field goals made per game.
Senior Keona Favis (SR/Shreveport, La.) was red hot from the floor, scoring 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.
"The strength of the wolf resides in the pack, and we had four players score in double digits against PSC," said Lady Bleu Devils Head Coach Norbert Rome.
As a team the Lady Bleu Devils scored 34 baskets on 28 assists. The team currently ranks fourth in the nation in assists per game with 18.2.
"This is probably the closest team I have ever coached," said Rome. "There is not one lone wolf; we have several wolves on our squad."
GCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Terralyn Dominick finished with a game-high 23 points but also had a game-high 11 turnovers in the loss for Philander Smith.
"As a team, we trust the process," said Rome.
The Lady Bleu Devils return to action on Saturday, January 21 as they travel to down the road to face Southern University at New Orleans in GCAC action. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Castle.
