(New Orleans, La.) The #21 ranked Bleu Devils dominated the Philander Smith Panthers from start to finish on its way to a 95-68 victory at the Battlefield in Dent Hall on MLK Day. The series has been dubbed "Battle of @hiphopprez" (Old School vs. New School) since Dillard's president, Dr. Walter Kimbrough, a.k.a. the 'hiphopprez' spent seven years as Philander's president before moving to New Orleans.

Dillard (11-5, 3-0 GCAC) jumped out to a 50-36 lead at the break by shooting 55 percent from the field in the first half. 2016 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year Montrey Thomas (SO/Shreveport, La.) led the way with a game-high 23 points (6-of-14) and addded six boards to go along with five rebounds in the victory while James Morris Jr. (JR/Peoria, Ill.) knocked down three 3-pointers as he finished with 16 points. Morris has now hit nine 3-pointers in his last two games. Seniors Dennis Hightower (SR/Chicago, Ill.) and Demetric Austin (SR/Washington, D.C.) came off the bench to score 17 and 14 points respectively for Dillard, who won its third straight conference game of the year.

As a team Dillard outrebounded Philander Smith 52 to 38. Dillard's bench proved to be dominant as they poured in 31 points compared to 19 for the Panthers.

Philander Smith's Christopher Ward finished with a team-high 18 points in the loss.

Dillard returns to action on Saturday, January 21 as they travel down the road to face Southern University at New Orleans in GCAC action. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. at the Castle.
