(New Orleans, La.) The #21 Bleu Devils basketball team had nearly 60 points from two of its players en route to a 100-75 victory over Tougaloo College. The win marks the first conference victory of the season for Dillard and career win number 350 for head coach Mike Newell.

"Well, if you are good at your craft, you should accumulate a lot of wins," said Newell. "I think that does prove that you are pretty good at what you do."

Dillard (9-5, 1-0 GCAC) led 45-50 at the break thanks to a solid output from National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics 2nd-team All-American Demetric Austin (SR/Washington, D.C.), who finished with a game-high 34 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in the victory. Junior transfer Quinton Jackson (JR/Cambridge, Md.) also finished with a double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the win. Jackson also dished out five assists for Dillard, who is ranked fourth in the entire NAIA in assists per game with 19.8. In this game they produced just under their season average and finished with 19 while the Bulldogs finished with 15 assists.

Patrick Thompson (JR/Geismar, La.), the 2015 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, got his second start of the season and finished with a season-high 16 points and grabbed five boards while 2016 GCAC Freshman of the Year Montrey Thomas (SO/Shreveport, La.) added 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win.

As a team Dillard outrebounded Tougaloo 46 to 29. The Bleu Devils, who are ranked number two in the NAIA in offensive rebounds per game (14.5), grabbed 18 boards on the offensive end and scored 13 second chance points.

Tougaloo's Andravious Smith finished with a team-high 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the loss.

Dillard returns to action on Saturday, January 14 as they travel to Alabama to face #13 Talladega College. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. The Tornadoes are the 2016 GCAC Men's Basketball Regular Season Champions while the Dillard Bleu Devils are the 2016 GCAC Men's Basketball Tournament Champions.
