(New Orleans, La.) Dillard held a two-point lead over Tougaloo entering the fourth quarter, then used a 24-16 run to end the game on its way to victory number one in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, defeating the Lady Bulldogs by the score of 75-65 in an exciting and close contest at the Battlefield in Dent Hall. The Lady Bleu Devils had not played a game in 29 days prior to this competition.

Dillard (9-4, 1-0 GCAC) was led by splash sister Alyssa Washington (SO/Austin, Texas), who finished with the game's only double-double, scoring  19 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the victory. Washington added three steals and one assist for Dillard. Transfer guard Adriiana Jackson (SO/Houston, Texas) had a solid game, scoring 15 points and dishing out six assists for the Lady Bleu Devils. Jackson was hot from the charity stripe all night, knocking down 7-of-8 attempts. Senior post player Keona Favis (SR/Shreveport, La.) was clutch down the stretch, scoring 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Favis also added two steals and two rebounds in the win.

Junior transfer Alexia McDonald (JR/Petal, Miss.) got to the foul line with ease, attempting a game-high 16 free throws. McDonald finished with 13 points, six boards and two steals for Dillard while teammate Shaelynn Moore (SO/Houston, Texas) finished with 12 points and four assists, nailing just one 3-pointer for Dillard. Moore, the other splash sister, entered the game ranked number two in the nation in 3-pointers made per game.

As a team Dillard was rusty from behind the arc, hitting just 2-of-14 three-pointers.

Tougaloo sophomore Casey Chenevert lit up the Battlefield, knocking down five 3-pointers in the loss. Chenevert finished with a team-high 17 points and added four rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs, who fall to 0-2 in GCAC play.

The Lady Bleu Devils return to action on Saturday, January 14 as they travel to Alabama to face Talladega College in GCAC action. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. at Tornado Alley.
