New Orleans, LA - The Dillard Lady Bleu Devils lost a tough match against NCAA Division I opponent Southern-Baton Rouge, 1-3, on the front end of the VooDU Volleyball Doubleheader, Saturday, at Dent Gym.  Match scores were 17-25, 21-25, 25-11, and 23-25.

Sophomore middle blocker Jessica Goods-Morris earned her first double-double of the season, pacing Dillard with 10 kills and 11 solo blocks, but that didn't stop Southern from jumping out to a quick 2-0 game lead.  The Lady Bleu Devils finally got off to a better start in the third set, jumping ahead early, 6-1, before SU would call a time out.  Midway through the game, DU was up 15-5 and later starting pulling away when freshman outside hitter Paula Ogbevoen picked up three service points in a row, pushing the lead to 21-7.  The women went on to win the third set 25-11.

The fourth set was the most exciting, with Dillard was feeding off the momentum of its game three win.   Junior outside hitter Valencia Wise got things started with a kill on the first play and Goods-Morris denied the Lady Jags at the net on second play of the game.  DU stayed close, exchanging points for a few rotations and the two teams would tie four times before it was all over.  An attack by junior middle blocker Cenquis Rockett would break a late tie and put Dillard ahead at the 22-21 mark, but- two plays later - a service error by freshman outside hitter Meagan Laday would prove fatal and Southern went on to clinch the victory.

Wise would end up with nine kills and 10 digs, Rockett had eight kills and three blocks, with Ogbevoen adding another eight kills and nine digs.  DU had an outstanding day on the back row, recording a four-set season high of 84 digs with libero Yladrea Marshall leading the way with 21.

Talladega College was scheduled to play the second half of the doubleheader, but did not make the trip.

The Lady Bleu Devils (4-4, 8-9) are now in fourth place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.  Next week, they hit the road traveling across town to Southern University-New Orleans for a 6 p.m. match on Monday, November 2, and then go to Baton Rouge to take on the Lady Jaguars (2-6, 7-15), for the second time in less than a week, on Wednesday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m.
