(New Orleans) The Lady Bleu Devils suffered its second loss of the season, this time at the hands of Langston University at the 2016 Xavier Classic by the score of 67-66 in front of a crowd of 378 at the Convocation Center on Thanksgiving Day.
Dillard (6-2, 0-0 GCAC) led 66-65 after sharpshooter Shaelynn Moore (SO/Houston, Texas) buried her third 3-pointer of the game with just over one minute left to play. After an exchange of turnovers by both teams, Langston regained possession and had a chance to take the lead with less than 30 seconds left in the game. With under 10 seconds on the game clock, Langston's Ri'Kell McWright hit a floater in the lane to give them a one point lead. Dillard then had one chance for one shot as Moore's deep 3-point attempt would fall just off the mark. Langston improves to 2-1 on the season and narrowly escapes a loss from the Lady Bleu Devils for the second year in a row. Dillard's Moore finished with a team-high 20 points and four steals while Langston's McWright finished with the games only double-double, 23 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs.
Sophomore transfer point guard Adriiana Jackson (SO/Houston, Texas) scored 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists and produced one steal in 33 minutes of action for the Lady Bleu Devils, who are now 1-2 against teams from the Red River Athletic Conference this season after a two-point loss to Huston-Tillotson on Tuesday night at the Battlefield in Dent Hall.
As a team Dillard shot a dismal 38 percent from the field while Langston shot 52 percent from the field. However, the Lady Bleu Devils forced 26 turnovers in the ball game while only committing 14 themselves.
The Lady Bleu Devils return to action on black Friday, November 25 for their second game in the Xavier University Classic, this time against Louisiana State University-Shreveport. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. at Xavier's Convocation Center.
