(Jacksonville, Fla.) With a time of 29.17, junior Toren Arnold (JR/New Orleans, La.) of Dillard University produced a second place finish at the 8K 2016 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championships while teammate sophomore Charles Dickerson (SO/New Orleans, La.) garnered a tenth place finish, posting a time of 31:12. Arnold's top 10 finish earned him an automatic bid to National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) nationals next month while Dickerson missed the automatic bid by one spot. However, both runners qualified for All-GCAC honors.
"I feel great," said Arnold. "I couldn't do it without the help of my team; I love these boys! It was a great atmosphere and a great competative race. I'm just grateful to be in second."
As a team the Bleu Devils finished third overall behind Xavier (1) and Edward Waters (2). Junior Lorenzo Gordon (JR/Austin, Texas) finished 15th overall with a time of 32:41 while teammate sophomore Kyle Herbert (SO/New Orleans, La.) picked up an 18th place finish with a time of 33:13. Freshman Connor Dailey finished just seconds after Herbert, posting a time of 33:18, good for 19th place overall.
Arnold will now prepare for the NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships on Saturday, November 19 in Elsah, Ill. The meet was previously scheduled to take place in North Carolina but recently relocated to Illinois.
