Dillard - Fri, Oct. 14, 2016

(New Orleans) The Dillard University Department of Athletics participated in the ninth annual Gentilly Fest at Ponchartrain Park in New Orleans. Student-athletes from each of the respective teams at Dillard passed out free posters, schedule cards and free tickets to upcoming home games at the Battlefield in Dent Hall while the Cheer Devils and DU Diamonds both stole the show with fabulous performances for the kids.

"It felt really good to be on stage passing out free Dillard gear at the Gentilly Fest because we were able to give back to the kids of New Orleans, and seeing smiles on the kids faces was priceless," said Dillard track and field member Oladipupo Olafuyi (SO/Lagos, Nigeria ), who also works as a resident assistant (RA) on campus.

"Every opportunity that I get to encourage or put a smile on the face of others is a blessing to me," said Adriiana Jackson (SO/Houston, Texas), Lady Bleu Devils sophomore transfer point guard from Houston Baptist University. "The Gentilly Fest was yet another humbling experience, not just as the SGA Chaplain, but as 'Adrii.' God has blessed me with opportunities and experiences that have exceeded my expectations and continues to do so. With that, I am excited and grateful to be able to give back and bless others as much as I possibly can."

Dillard has been on the forefront of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Champions of Character Initiative, which embodies the five core character values: respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship. With guidance from Dillard's athletic director, Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes, who also serves as Gulf Coast Athletic Conference President, its no surprise why Dillard is always in the mix when it comes to community service in the Gentilly area and New Orleans.
