(New Orleans) The Dillard University men's basketball team hosted its second annual "Bleu & White Game" to showcase the nation's number one ranked team in the country (NAIA) according to a recent Sporting News poll. Dillard President Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough along with Dillard athletic director Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes both headlined as guest coaches. However, the main purpose of this historic event at the Battlefield in Dent Hall was to gather toiletries to assist flood victims of Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas.
"One of the great outcomes of our game was that we were able to collect items to give to those in need," said President Kimbrough. "We always want a vibrant culture of giving instilled in our students. The only problem is that my team took it too far- and gave away the game!"
Unfortunately for Dr. Kimbrough, his team (white) squandered a seven point lead with 22 seconds left in regulation as they fell short to Dr. Barnes' team (bleu) for the second year in a row, this time by the score of 100-97 (OT). Last year his team lost by just two points in the inaugural "Bleu & White Game."
"I am really excited that we had the opportunity to do what was shown to us during our recovery time after Hurricane Katrina. I'm glad we were able to assist with their efforts. It was also fun to get a sneak peek at what our team looks like. The sky is the limit for this team," said Dr. Barnes.
"And I'm 2 to 0!"
