The sweep put the Lady Bleu Devils on the plus side of the win column overall and in GCAC play, for the first time this season, with marks of 8-7 and 4-3, respectively, and also snapped the Lady Blazers five-game win streak.
"Today's win was huge as we enter the second half of conference play," said head coach Yolanda Brown.
The Lady Bleu Devils fought off all attempts at a comeback, starting with the first game. They allowed Belhaven to get within one point (22-23) on a kill error by Goods-Morris, who spiked attacks on the next two plays for the win. In game two, the Lady Blazers made error after error and fell behind quickly, giving Dillard a go ahead point on a service error, at the 6-5 mark. DU never looked back and captured the win on a Belhaven ball handling error. As a team, Dillard posted 29 kills on offense and denied Belhaven, defensively, blocking them a season-high 12 times at the net.
"This is the team I saw in week one," said Brown. "Paula and Jessica played aggressively [at the net] while Yladrea (Marshall) and Danta (Cobb) played no fear defense. This was a team win."
Other superlatives include Goods-Morris' six kills, Keisha Smoke also had six and 14 digs; Cobb had 25 assists and 11 digs; Marshall and Zorana Piljevic also scooped 14 digs apiece, with Banikah Jackson adding 15.
Dillard, in third place in the GCAC, will hit the road October 27 to play top-ranked Mobile (15-9, 7-0) at 7:30 p.m., in Pharr Gymnasium (Mobile, AL).
