(Talladega, Ala.) The Lady Bleu Devils trailed 55 to 51 with six minutes remaining in the game before the Lady Tornadoes of Talladega College pulled away for the 64-57 victory at the Tornado Alley in Alabama.
"We were right there," said head coach Norbert Rome.
Dillard (9-15, 4-7 GCAC) was led by freshman sharpshooter Shaelynn Moore (FR/Houston, Texas) who finished with a game-high 22 points and nailed a total of five 3-pointers in the loss while freshman teammate Alyssa Washington (FR/Austin, Texas) scored 13 points and produced five steals.
As a team the Lady Bleu Devils struggled all night on the glass as the Lady Tornadoes grabbed twice as many rebounds (54) to just 27 for Dillard, who shot just 30 percent from the field while its opponents shot 40 percent. However, Dillard forced 30 Talladega turnovers and had 15 steals in the contest but turned the ball over 18 times while producing just nine total assists in the loss.
Talladega was led by Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year Tajanee Wells who finished with 14 points and five rebounds. The 14th ranked team in the NAIA remains a perfect 11-0 in conference and 22-3 overall.
Dillard's final game of the regular season is on Saturday, February 27 as they host the Gold Nuggets of Xavier University in the 2016 Bleu Devil Classic. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Battlefield in Dent Hall.
