(New Orleans) With seconds remaining in the game and her team trailing by just two points, senior Alena Evans (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) made a move to the basket when Lady Panthers guard Juquecia Chaney made a superb defensive play and came off of her man to produce the game-clinching steal as Philander Smith held on for the 58-56 win over the Lady Bleu Devils at the Battlefield in Dent Hall in the Battle of @hiphopprez (Old School vs. New School). The loss drops Dillard to sixth place out of seven teams in the conference.

"It was awful," said Evans, who was clearly distraught from the crucial turnover.

Dillard (9-14, 4-6 GCAC) shot a dismal 29 percent from the field while their opponents shot 43 percent. However, the Lady Bleu Devils outrebounded their opponents 39 to 33, (13 offensive) thanks to outstanding play from players like freshman Alyssa Washington (FR/Austin, Texas) who finished with a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 boards while teammate Shaelynn Moore (FR/Houston, Texas) scored a game-high 21 points (4-for-4 FT's) and hit a total of five 3-pointers in the loss. Evans finished wiht 13 points for Dillard.

Philander Smith College was led by Tamara Heard who finished with team-high 17 points and hit five 3-pointers of her own while teammate Brittany Leonard had 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals in the win.

With the victory, PSC advances to 15-11 overall (6-5 GCAC).

Dillard continues GCAC play as they travel to Alabama to face Talladega College on Monday, February 21. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
