New Orleans—The Dillard University Bleu Devils basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 77-52 victory over Southern University at New Orleans at the newly renovated Castle on Lundi Gras.
The Bleu Devils (15-8, 6-2 GCAC) enjoyed an 18-point lead at the half and never looked back. Dillard was led by big man Ramon Johnson (SO/Newark, N.J.) who finished with a double-double, scoring game-high 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and grabbing a team-high 12 boards in the victory. Freshman Montrey Thomas (FR/Shreveport, La.) had a solid output with 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal while teammate Kristian Clark (JR/Ocean Springs, Miss.) chipped in with 11 points, three boards, two blocks and two assists in 30 minutes of action.
As a team Dillard outrebounded SUNO 52 to 29 but turned the ball over 19 times compared to just 13 for the Knights. SUNO only had one scorer in double figures in Dominique Suggs (10 pts.) and drops to 1-7 in conference play.
Dillard continues GCAC play as they travel to Florida to face Edward Waters on Saturday, February 13. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
