(New Orleans) Just days after its defeat over the Gold Nuggets in the 2016 Crosstown Classic, the Lady Bleu Devils gave up a four-point fourth quarter lead and fell 49-48 to the Southern University at New Orleans Lady Knights at the newly renovated Castle. This is the second time this season that Dillard has given up a fourth quarter lead that resulted in a loss against SUNO.

"We have to do a better job protecting the basketball," said assistant coach Norvell Rome. "We can't have moments of inconsistent energy. I felt like tonight there were times where the energy level was down, and when you play a good team on the road like that, you can't have moments of inconsistent energy."

Dillard (9-12, 4-4 GCAC) shot 50 percent from 3-point land and connected on 83 percent of its free throws. The Lady Bleu Devils were led by freshman Shaelynn Moore (FR/Houston, Texas) who finished with 11 points and hit two 3-pointers in the loss while senior Alena Evans (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) finished with eight points and had a game-high 14 rebounds. Micah Brooks and Ravin Miller led the way for SUNO with 16 points and 12 points respectively.

Lady Bleu Devils point guard Shantrell Lumar (JR/Baton Rouge, La.) filled up the stat sheet as she finished with six points, four boards, three assists, two steals and one block in 36 minutes of action. Lumar had a chance to hit the game winner, but missed a floater in the lane at the buzzer.

"It's a learning process," said Lumar. "Mentally you have to be prepared to defeat these tough teams. We just beat Xavier on Saturday then to have this 1-point loss for the second time this season to SUNO hurts."

With the victory, SUNO advances to 9-10 overall (4-4 GCAC).

Dillard continues GCAC play as they travel to Florida to face Edward Waters on Saturday, February 13. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
