(New Orleans) For the first time in 25 years, the Dillard University Lady Bleu Devils went to the campus of Xavier University and defeated the Gold Nuggets by the score of 57-52 in the 2016 Crosstown Classic at the Convocation Center. With the win, Dillard moves to second place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.

The Lady Bleu Devils basketball team (9-11, 4-3 GCAC) had a very balanced attack that was led by sharpshooter Shaelynn Moore (FR/Houston, Texas) who finished with 15 points, three boards, three steals and one assist in 35 minutes of action. Teammates Keona Favis (JR/Shreveport, La.) and Alyssa Washington (FR/Austin, Texas) were instrumental to the team's production as they finished with 13 points and 12 points respectively. Washington had a great overall game, filling up the stat sheet with eight rebounds, five steals and four assists while Alena Evans (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) nearly finished with a double-double in her final Crosstown Classic with nine points and ten boards in the victory.

"I am so happy right now," said post player Raven Reyes (SR/San Antonio, Texas), who also played in her final Crosstown Classic. The Texas native finished with two rebounds, two assists and one block. As a team Dillard produced 12 steals to just six for Xavier. The Lady Bleu Devils forced 17 Xavier turnovers but committed 15 in the win.

Dillard continues GCAC play on Lundi Gras, Monday, February 8 as they travel across town to face the Southern University of New Orleans Lady Knights. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at the newly renovated Castle.
