New Orleans—The 24th ranked team in the country continued its historic season with its second highest point total of the year by defeating the Tougaloo Bulldogs 115-97 at the Battlefield in Dent Hall. The win marks Dillard's fifth straight victory of the season, and this time it was done without their leading scorer. Last time the Bleu Devils even won four straight games was in the 2004-05 season, the period right before Hurricane Katrina.

The Bleu Devils (14-6, 5-1 GCAC) used a 66-point second half surge to pull away from the Bulldogs in what proved to be an exciting contest until the end. Point guard Dennis Hightower (JR/Chicago, Ill.) led the way for Dillard with a career-high 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field, including three 3-pointers. Freshman sensation Montrey Thomas (FR/Shreveport, La.) finished with 23 points and had a career-high in attempted free throws as well as made free throws, going 11-for-12 (92 percent) from the charity stripe.

As a team Dillard outshot Tougaloo in all three phases: 56 percent vs. 49 percent (from the field), 52 percent vs. 39 percent (from downtown) and 80 percent vs. 75 percent (from the charity stripe).

Dennis Reed (JR/England, Ark.) looked like the Dennis of old as he finished with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds while teammate Houston Chatman (JR/Houma, La.) filled the stat sheet with 14 points, five assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block in just 19 minutes of action.

Tougaloo was led by De'Andre Scott who finished with a game-high 28 points and added seven steals while teammate Andravious Smith had a solid output, finishing with 25 points, 11 boards and five assists in the loss.

Dillard continues GCAC action on Saturday, February 6 as they travel across town to face the Xavier University Gold Rush. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
