(New Orleans, La.) The Dillard University Bleu Devils started their season off with an explosion, scoring the first eight points as they manhandled the Carver Bible College Cougars by the score of 92-55 in the Battlefield at Dent Hall.

"I'm proud of the way we rebounded the basketball tonight, but we still have a long way to go," said Dillard head coach Mike Newell.

Dillard's Dennis Reed (JR/England, Ark.) had the only double-double in the game, finishing with 18 points and 21 rebounds while teammate Demetric Austin (JR/Washington, D.C.) finished with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting.

As a team Dillard outrebounded Carver 67 to 38 while enjoying a 48-25 lead at the half. The 67 rebounds places Dillard at the very top of the NAIA in total rebounds per game thus far. The Bleu Devils locked the Cougars down on the defensive end, forcing them to a dismal 25 percent shooting from the field while the Bleu Devils shot 45 percent.

Dillard returns to action on Saturday, November 7 as they travel to Houston to face the University of St. Thomas. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.  With the victory, Dillard would improve to 2-0 for the first time since the 2006-07 season when Anthony Anderson was head coach of the Bleu Devils.
