(New Orleans, La.) Teammates Alyssa Washington (FR/Austin, Texas) and Shaelynn Moore (FR/Houston, Texas) combined for a total of 46 points en route to a 73-68 victory over the NAIA's 13th ranked team in the nation in the Loyola Wolf Pack. The last time the Lady Bleu Devils defeated their crosstown rivals was on December 8, 2012 when former DU sharp shooter Shea Collins nailed 8 three pointers on Loyola's home court. In recent years, Dillard is just 3-20 against the Wolf Pack, but this victory was expected from Dillard head coach Norbert Rome.

"At our coaches luncheon I told our S.I.D. these exact words, 'don't be surprised,' and he knew exactly what I meant after the game," said Rome. "I was confident in starting these two special freshmen without any reservation because I know we have a solid team and our coaching staff came in with a solid game plan, and we have a tough crowd behind us when we play at the Battlefield."

In their first collegiate game ever, Washington & Moore finished with 24 points (8-of-18 FG) and 22 points (8-of-14 FG) respectively. Washington added four boards, four steals and two assists while Moore chipped in with three steals and three assists.

As a team, Dillard outscored Loyola 20-14 in the most important quarter, the fourth quarter. The NAIA adopted new rules in women's basketball this season which included a change from two 20 minute halves to four 10 quarters.

Loyola fought hard and stayed with Dillard throughout the entire contest, but at the end simply couldn't overtake the Lady Bleu Devils. The Wolf Pack had a chance to take the lead with 30 seconds remaining before Briana Oglesby threw the ball right to Alena Evans (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) which sealed the deal after another steal on the following possession by Raven Reyes (SR/San Antonio, Texas).

Oglesby finished with a team-high 19 points for Loyola while teammate Zoie Miller finished with 14 points. Meghan Temple had the only double-double in the game with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
