(New Orleans, La.) (GCAConf.com) The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference announced today its Preseason All-GCAC Team along with its choice for preason player of the year and it's preseason coaches poll for the 2015-16 men's basketball season. Selections are made through a vote of the league's coaches who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes or teams.
Featuring six returnees from last season's conference championship squad, Talladega College has been picked as the favorite to win their second consecutive GCAC men's basketball title in the conference's preseason coaches' poll while Xavier University guard Morris Wright was chosen as the Preseason Player of the Year after garnering four first place votes and one second place vote. Wright is joined on the Preseason All-GCAC Team by Quintarius Porter (Tougaloo), Courtney Mack (Talladega), Ronald March (Philander Smith), Joe Brown (SUNO) and Houston Chatman (JR/Houma, La.) (Dillard). There were six selections due to a tie in the voting.
"It's an honor to be given this award being that I work hard on and off the court," said Chatman. "It feels good to be acknowledged for something I dedicate myself to day in and day out. I have tons of room for improvement and I am looking forward to making a run at a title."
The Bleu Devils basketball team's season opener is on Friday, October 30 as they face Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas.
