Women's Basketball - Thu, Nov. 20, 2014

(New Orleans, La.)  The Dillard women's basketball team surpassed its entire win total from last season with a 59-51 win over Louisiana State University-Shreveport at the Battlefield in Dent Hall.

The Lady Bleu Devils (4-3, 0-0 GCAC) never trailed throughout the entire ball game thanks to floor general sophomore guard Shantrell Lumar (SO/Baton Rouge, LA) who finished with 15 points, nailing 7-of-9 free throws.  Lumar also had three assists, two rebounds, four turnovers and one steal in the victory.  Once again, she played the entire 40 minutes of the ball game.

"The ladies did a very good job of playing smart tonight," said Dillard head coach Norbert Rome.  Dillard's bench outscored the Lady Pilot's bench 23-8.

For the game, Dillard enjoyed 20 points off of 20 turnovers from LSU-S and matched its average for steals per game with 16.  Entering the game, Dillard was ranked number one in the NAIA in steals/game.  Senior Keylantra Taylor (SR/Houston, TX) had a wonderful game for Dillard, leading her team in steals (3) and finishing with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.  She also added four boards and one assist in only 22 minutes of action.  Taylor recently made the transition from the volleyball court to the basketball court and is steadily getting back into basketball mode.

Junior Alena Evans (JR/Las Vegas, NV) had a quiet night on the offensive end with four points, but had a solid game on the defensive end with a team-high 12 rebounds and also added one steal.

LSU-S sophomore forward Kourtney Pennywell had a sensational game finishing with a 22 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.  Both were game highs.

On Saturday, November 22, Dillard continues play in Houston, Tx. for a non-conference game against St. Thomas-Houston.  Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
