(New Orleans, La.)  Dillard University freshman track athlete Ebony Darling (FR/DeSoto, TX) (FR) won "1st Female Teen" award at Saturday's 27th annual UNCF Walk with a time of 28:20.

She was the first female teenager to cross the finish line.

"I feel like a winner," said Darling.  "If it wasn't for my mom, coach, and God, I would have never made it this far.

Darling is majoring in psychology and attended DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas.  Her Lady Bleu Devils will compete in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 18 at City Park at 8:00 a.m. with the Bleu Devils following that.

"I plan to run against the clock at next week's GCAC meet and not think about who's next to me," said Darling.  "Hopefully the long runs to Wal-Mart pay off."
