(New Orleans, La.) The Lady Bleu Devils basketball team looks to improve from last season with the addition of former Fisk University guard and First-team GCAC All-Conference junior Rashida Ademosu.
"I thank Coach Rome for giving me the opportunity to continue my basketball at Dillard," said Ademosu, who stands at 5'7" and has played every position from the one to the five throughout her basketball career which began when she was about seven years old.
"I've played all five positions before, but I don't like to put a number on me," said Ademosu. "I like to think that I'm a guard though."
The Biology major grew up playing basketball with her older brother, and often times she was the only girl on the court. That helped her develop the on-court toughness that she displays in her game today.
In 25 games last season with Fisk, Ademosu averaged 15.6 points per game, 6.8 boards per game, 4.4 assists per game and was even ranked fourth in the nation in Division 1 (NAIA) with 3.1 steals per game. She earned MVP of her team last season as well as Defensive Player of the Year honors.
"I loved playing for Coach T. (Fisk) because he was like a father figure to me," said Ademosu. "Going to New Orleans will be my first experience leaving home (Nashville) and it's going to be challenge for me, but I'm excited and ready."
The first chance you will get to see Ademosu and the new look Lady Bleu Devils is on Friday, October 31 as they travel to Tyler to face Texas College. Dillard's home opener is on Tuesday, November 4 as they host Texas College at the Battlefield in Dent Hall. Ademosu will not get a chance to face her former team since Fisk University left the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference after last season.
