(New Orleans, La.) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that 1,290 athletic programs, including the Bleu Devils and Lady Bleu Devils basketball teams of Dillard University, have been named 2013-14 NAIA Scholar-Teams.
The Lady Bleu Devils led the way for Dillard with a 3.38 team GPA while their counterpart, the Bleu Devils, finished with a 3.11 team GPA. The Lady Bleu Devils ranked sixth place in the nation out of all NAIA Division 1 women's basketball teams whereas the Bleu Devils ranked fourth in the nation out of all NAIA Division 1 men's basketball teams.
"I am happy to see our scholar-athletes get honored for what matters most, outstanding performance in the classroom that will eventually lead to their graduation," said Dillard University Director of Athletics Kiki Baker Barnes. "Kudos to the scholar-athletes and the coaches for all their hard work."
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale as defined by the institution. The team GPA includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
