(New Orleans) With a time of 3:12.80, Dillard's men's 4x400 meter relay team did the unthinkable by finishing third place overall at the 2014 NAIA Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships despite coming into the race ranked number 19 in the nation. This marks the third consecutive year that the Dillard track team has had members qualify for competition on the national level.
"Well first of all, glory to God for just blessing us to be able to finish third in the nation," said head coach Bobby Williams. "I'm very excited and proud of the guys; for us to finish third is definitely a surprise and a blessing. I knew we had it in us; we were just injured throughout the season so we didn't get a real good chance to show what we could do in the 4x4 but everybody came back healthy and we were able to take third place," said Williams.
Members of the 4x4 team include seniors Emory Nash (SR/Ft. Worth, TX) and Matt Jones (SR/Rosenberg, TX) as well as juniors Jevonte Ezzard (JR/College Park, GA) and Kermit Buggage (JR/New Orleans, LA). "I love to see how they went out," said Coach Williams. "They went out finishing very high in the nation; we started together four years ago and just to see them end this way is definitely a blessing. I'm going to miss those guys, and I couldn't have done it without my seniors," said Williams.
