Dillard - Tue, May 6, 2014

(New Orleans)  Amber Tramel (SR/Dallas, TX) was named the recipient of the 2014 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Dr. LeRoy Walker Champions of Character Award.  Tramel, a senior basketball and track and field athlete from Dallas, Texas, is grateful to receive such an award.

"I was surprised and excited, but also more grateful than anything to get the award," said the outgoing 'Miss Dillard University.'  She will join over 200 graduating seniors for Dillard's commencement which is on Saturday, May 10, where First Lady Michelle Obama will deliver the commencement address.

This marks the second year in a row that Dillard University has produced the GCAC's Dr. LeRoy Walker COC Award winner.  Last year, Jonquil Griffin from the Lady Bleu Devils track and field team won the award.

"I think its good publicity for Dillard," said Tramel.  "It gives us a good chance for people to see this small HBCU in New Orleans.  It shows that we have moved passed Katrina."

Tramel is no stranger to success.  She is also currently in the running for Ebony Magazine's Campus Queens and she has one wish for the audience reading this article.

"My one request to the readers is that if you feel I am a solid candidate, please go support me by voting for me at (page 2), Miss Dillard University."
