(Houston) The Dillard Bleu Devils track and field team recently traveled to Houston to partake in the coveted TSU Relays on the campus of Texas Southern University. The student-athletes strived to qualify for NAIA nationals by achieving the required time in their respective events.
Junior sprinter Tobyus Simmons (JR/Nashville, TN) was the lone Bleu Devil to make it to the finals in the Men's 100 Meter Dash, finishing fifth overall with a time of 10.69. Simmons is currently ranked number two in the nation (NAIA) in the event (http://www.tfrrs.org/lists/1227.html?gender=m#6) with a time of 10.61, which is good enough for NAIA "A standards." Simmons also raced in the Men's 200 Meter Dash, finishing fifth overall with a time of 22.31.
Junior runner Jevonte Ezzard (JR/College Park, GA) finished third overall in the Men's 400 Meter Dash, posting a time of 48.65. In last year's NAIA Track and Field Championships, Ezzard finished fourth overall in the same event. He is currently still looking to qualify for NAIA nationals at upcoming track meets.
The Bleu Devils will participate in Saturday's Tulane Team Challenge at Tad Gormley Stadium. Running events begin at 1:00 p.m., and it is free of charge to the public.
