(New Orleans)  Despite trailing by one at the half, the Gold Nuggets held the Lady Bleu Devils to just 20 second half points to eliminate Dillard by the score of 60-47 in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 GCAC Women's Basketball Championships at the Battlefield in Dent Hall.

The Lady Bleu Devils (3-16, 3-9) ended the season on a five game losing streak, but look to continue building and improving their young team for next season.  Dillard was led by junior Kierrariel Mitchell who finished with 10 points, two boards, one assist and one block in just 12 minutes of action, while sophomore Alena Evans had a solid game and finished with seven points, eight boards, one assist and one steal in 25 minutes.  The lone senior on the squad, Brionne Brister, finished with three points and four rebounds in her last game in a Lady Bleu Devil uniform.

For Xavier, Whitney Gathright led her team with 12 points, four boards, four steals and four turnovers, while Whitney Gaston-Loyd finished with 11 points, five boards and two steals.

The Gold Nuggets advance to the semifinals to host the Lady Bulldogs of Tougaloo College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Convocation Center.  Tougaloo pulled off a major upset over Southern University at New Orleans and eliminated them from the tournament after losing to them by 17 points in their final regular season game less than a week ago.
