(New Orleans) Two days after Dillard picked up its first victory of the season, the Lady Bleu Devils fell to the Lady Panthers of Philander Smith College by the score of 77-65 at the Battlefield in Dent Hall in "The Battle of @hiphopprez 1 (Old School vs. New School)" on MLK Day.
Sophomore Alena Evans led Dillard (1-9, 1-3 GCAC) and produced a game-high 25 points to go along with her six rebounds, two steals, one block and one assist in 27 minutes. Evans shot 10-for-18 from the field. Junior Kierrariel Mitchell chipped in with 11 points, six boards and two assists in 24 minutes. Dillard's bench outscored PSC 38 to 26, but PSC had a 45-32 lead at the half thanks to nailing 14-of-21 free throws in the first half.
Both teams had 21 turnovers in the game, but PSC took advantage by scoring 25 points off of Dillard's miscues while the Lady Bleu Devils only managed 12 points off of PSC's turnovers. Freshman point guard Shantrell Lumar filled up the stat sheet for Dillard with six points, six assists, eight rebounds and three steals.
PSC's Jerricka Scott was on fire from the charity stripe, hitting 12-of-14 from the line and finishing with a team-high 22 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. Scott added eight boards to go along with five turnovers. Myisha Johnson chipped in with 18 points, five boards, three assists, and two steals.
The Lady Bleu Devils continue conference play and travel across town on Saturday, January 25 as they face Xavier University in the 2014 Crosstown Classic in the Convocation center on the campus of Xavier University. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
