(New Orleans)  The Dillard University men's basketball team escaped near disaster by defeating Spring Hill College by the score of 47-43 at the Battlefield in Dent Hall.

The Bleu Devils (2-1, 0-0 GCAC) started the game off with an 8-0 run and led 25-18 at the break.  In the second half Dillard led by as many as 11 points before the Badgers made a run to close the game.

With 19 seconds left in the game and the score at 45-43 in Dillard's favor, Spring Hill's Ty McCants milked the clock down to about six seconds before he drove to the basket and turned the ball over, ending the Badgers chances of tying or potentially hitting a game-winning three point basket.  Dillard sophomore Houston Chatman not only came up with the steal but calmly buried the game clinching free throws on the other end of the floor.

Chatman finished with a game-high 11 points, two boards, three steals and two assists in 27 minutes of action while sophomore Jarrain Jenkins also had a game-high 11 points and collected nine rebounds and two assists on the evening.
