Led by 2008 All-Conference player Keisha Smoke, the women will do battle with three of six NCAA Division I opponents this season, starting Friday, September 4, when they face Mississippi Valley State at 1 p.m. in the front half of a doubleheader, at Texas Southern's Health and Physical Education Arena. Dillard meets the host team at 5 p.m. On Saturday, September 5, the Lady Blue Devils take on Prairie View A&M at 11 a.m., to round out tournament play.
"Although we are getting ready to face some tough opponents, I'm very optimistic about this upcoming season," said third-year head coach Yolanda Brown. "We are still working out some kinks, but we have good chemistry and communication and that's a good start."
On Saturday, October 31, the first ever VooDU Volleyball Doubleheader will take place at Dent Hall, with the Dillard hosting Southern University - Baton Rouge at 1 p.m., followed by Talladega College at 3 p.m. Southern, along with Alcorn and Grambling State complete the list of NCAA opponents Dillard will face this season.
"Coach Brown has worked diligently to recruit quality scholar-athletes," said athletics director Kiki Baker Barnes. "We are expecting her to have a successful season."
The Lady Blue Devils open Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) play at home against the Lady Badgers of Spring Hill College on Friday, September 18, at 7.p.m., in Dent Hall. Other key conference matchups include Loyola - New Orleans and Mobile, the 2008 GCAC Volleyball Champions.
